The Dominicans in Singapore belong to the Province of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, a missionary province founded in the 16th century for the evangelisation of Asia. It is the only province of the Order without a fixed territory.
In 2000, the Province established a permanent presence in Singapore to serve as a mission and an English training house for friars in formation.
Today, there is a small household of friars who provide pastoral care, preaching, theological education, and support for the local church. More information about the Dominican friars in Singapore may be found at the Province's webpage and the Archdiocese's History Exhibition.
Fr David Garcia OP is the religious assistant to the Lay Dominicans in Singapore. The religious assistant (brother or sister) to a Lay Dominican chapter assists the members in doctrinal matters and in the spiritual life.
Fr David is a lecturer in Moral Theology at the St Francis Xavier Major Seminary and Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore and a well-known speaker on topics such as social justice, and bioethics.
You may find his writings on 99 Ideas, which compiles materials from his courses on morality, bioethics and Catholic Social Teaching.
